The 2017 Verdelho is a golden light-yellow hue. It is fermented at an extremely cold temperature which helps it develop in the bottle. The nose is quite subtle, with light hints of honey dew, cantaloupe and a slight flinty note. Don’t be fooled by the calm scents exuding from the glass, the palate does not mess around!
A very soft and oily mouth-feel envelopes the senses at first, with an overwhelming taste of pineapple and tropical fruits. Halfway through the sip, there is a surprising acidity that takes over and leaves an orange citrus flavor. The texture could be described as extremely rich, considering this white wine has not undergone malolactic fermentation. The winemaker has only one thing to say about this Verdelho: “It has a subtle smell to palate explosion!”
The best combination for this particular wine would be half shelled oysters with a spicy salsa. A spicy tuna roll pairs beautifully as would a number of other Asian dishes, as long as the dish comes with a bit of a kick.
