Fully opaque, but filled with violets and deep ruby reds, this 2016 Merlot ferments for 20 months in medium toasted barrels made from new French oak heads and American oak staves.
The fruit hails from Block 2D and 2E of our vineyard and aged for a total of 36 months before bottling. The gorgeous color is only a precursor to the delectable smell; hints of coffee and toffee, bitter dark chocolate and spices of nutmeg and vanilla, ending with an aftertaste of black licorice.
The mouthfeel is richly textured and tannic, which salivates the mouth. There is a juicy and fleshy taste that leads to a big and bold body wine with layers of spice. Maraschino cherry and black plum fruit coat the mouth for a sultry red wine that pairs perfectly with lamb or duck.
