2013 Broken Earth Limited Release Viognier
Viognier is slowly but surely making its way on the wine scene as a force to be reckoned with. Its charming and seductive nose of ripe fruits and delicate floral aromas lures you in, and before you know it, you’re hooked. Historically grown in the northern most region of the Rhone Valley, this grape has found itself right at home basking in the California sunshine. Viognier does particularly well on the central coast, benefiting from the cool coastal evening breezes. The grapes for this wine were sourced from our very own Shimmin Canyon Vineyards which are carefully and skillfully farmed, ensuring only the highest quality of fruit production.
Fermentation was kept quite cold in order to capture the more subtle, delicate aromas that make Viognier such a special wine. A very specific aromatic yeast was utilized to capture & enhance the more subtle characters.
It is critical when serving Viognier, to make sure the wine isn’t chilled too much. Viognier that is served too cold will mask the understated layers of aromas, causing you to miss out on what makes this wine so lovely and unique.
Typically it shows hints of apricot and honeydew melon but add to that freshly ground coconut, banana and guava notes. This wine has a generous mouth feel and being harvested ripe, it shows great length of flavor. It is quite complex with a number of fruit layers that unfold as it breathes in the glass.
Because of Viognier’s forward, fruity nose and distinct flavors, it demands to be paired with foods that won’t compete with it. We recommend a simply prepared white fish, or other light seafood fare.
