2013 RESERVE Broken Earth Merlot
Our vineyard, Rancho Tierra Rejada was first planted to wine grapes in 1973, making it one of the first major, commercial plantings in the Paso Robles AVA. One other fascinating fact is that, in 1973, it was also the largest single planting of Merlot in the United States. A fascinating history for a very misunderstood variety.
That is about to change. We conducted a series of very detailed trials in the Merlot Block 1G and this wine is the result of those endeavors. Blessed with ripeness and depth it was matured for 2 years in the very exclusive L’Ermitage oak that offers a refinement fitting a wine of this quality. It shows all the hallmarks of this classic variety, plums, cherries and dark fruits abound, all wonderfully interwoven with spicy oak. The brightness of the palate reflects the liveliness of Merlot when presented properly.
Enjoy with many types of foods but treat yourself and cellar some to really demonstrate what the variety can do.
