2016 Broken Earth Limited Release Vermentino
With a sunbeam of yellow encapsulated by a green tinted rim, this wine introduces itself by allowing the fruit to lead with acidity playing a supporting role. Once poured, a sniff is recommended before the first swirl to take in the fragile aromatics that define this wine. Then, with a few spins around the glass the bouquet will quickly develop into floral aromas that lean toward white magnolia. This wine was created in a reductive style that excludes oxygen, creating a “dome” to protect the fresh, fruity, and vibrant aromatics. Since this wine hits the middle mark on fruit, balance, and body, the food pairings are endless. To begin, pair with a Sardinia antipasti spread or heartier vegetarian dishes that include everything from sun chokes, ricotta ravioli, or creamy leek soup. For mains, anything from heavier fish dishes to lighter white meat recipes is ideal. The 2016 Vermentino can age for up to ten years, so feel free to add a few to your cellar and experiment at the years go on.
