2016 Limited Release Tannat
As Broken Earth’s first Tannat vintage, prepare to be blown away. You may even find a new favorite varietal! Tannat has become a special and rare find here on the Central Coast, and highly coveted for most cellars.
At first glance, you may mistake this sultry dark colored wine for a Petite Sirah. This wine is completely opaque with some slight purple tinge on the edges when held up to the light. In this case, the boldness of the color matches the boldness of the scent and flavor profiles. Pick up the aromatic notes of green pepper, smoke, peppercorn, spices and mulberry. This is one sultry beast that we should all want to trifle with!
Take a sip and experience gooseberry flavors, surrounded by a big, bold and tannic mouthfeel. The longer you can swish and swirl, the more the smoke, chocolate, and jam notes come through, leaving you with one of the longest finishes from the Broken Earth repertoire.
A special wine like this deserves some specialty foods to go with it. Try a red meat dish cooked for a few hours in the smoker, or make a spicy marinade for your BBQ. The smoke and spice in the food will continue to compliment those same flavors in the wine. Going out to eat? Not a problem, pick a restaurant that features duck, Thai, or Indian food. Their spicy dishes are sure to be a great match for this Tannat.
